Greetings
We are pleased to announce that IASD's Board of Directors has approved a proposal from the Dutch Conference Committee to hold the 2011 IASD International Conference at the Abbey of Rolduc's meeting facility in Kerkrade, the Netherlands, during the summer of 2011. This site was proposed after considering several sites in the Netherlands, including venues in Amsterdam.

Rolduc is a beautiful 11th century Abbey located in the southern part of the Netherlands which offers a spectacular setting for a dream conference and wonderful opportunities for international tourism, being accessible from airports in Amsterdam, Germany and Belgium. We anticipate an exciting conference and thank the Dutch dreamers and VSD ("Association for the Study of Dreams" in the Netherlands) for welcoming IASD as it revisits their beautiful country.

Note: In order to avoid any confusion, IASD would like to state that it is in no way affiliated with nor supporting the non-IASD dream conference announced for the summer of 2011 in Amsterdam.

Venue
The conference is housed at the former medieval monastery of Rolduc, Kerkrade, in the Netherlands. It is situated at the Dutch-German frontier, which can be passed without any difficulty (Schengen convention of Europe) to the juxtaposed city of Herzogenrath at less than 1 mile distance of the conference centre, and 8 miles from Belgium.

Environment
Rolduc Conference Centre is part of an old monastery. The core of the monastery is the oldest Roman Church of the Netherlands which dates back to the 11th Century ( historic overview here ). Around this core new buildings have been added through the centuries. The atmosphere is typical of a monastery, plenty of open space to relax, within a scenic area, inviting to make round walks. The Rolduc Abbey has played a prominent role in Dutch history, Christian science, development of Coal Mining (!) and for long time it was tied to the conservative wing of the Dutch Catholic Church. In 1971, the functionality was split up and since then it houses an independent, impressive Conference centre, housed in a serene and inspiring atmosphere.

The centre is located near the Dutch Belgian German triple boundary at Vaals (7 Miles) and Aachen (4 miles). The so called Euregio Area has a rich, documented history, highlights of which date back to the chert industry of the stone ages 5000 BC, the Roman Period 50 AD with Roman settlements a.o. in Maastricht Coriovallum (Heerlen), and the Middle Ages (Carolus Magnus, 9th century built the dome of Aachen). In the vicinity are several of the oldest if not the oldest cities of The Netherlands (Maastricht, 20 miles), Germany (Aachen, 6 miles) and Belgium (Tongeren, 25 miles).
